If only the US/NATO advocates could quietly step back, realizing that such dominance cannot be retained forever. History does not show instances of a hegemon quietly drawing back to proper size, I fear.

I agree that empires do not often go quietly or nonviolently, as we've seen already with from the West in the war in Ukraine. I'm encouraged, though, by the growing calls for peace from other quarters, from countries that did not used to have as much power or influence in this context as they appear to have right now.
